About the Project

Tết
/tet˥1/ — noun

Tết Nguyên Đán (lit. 'Festival of the first day') is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture, deeply rooted in heritage and tracing its origins to agricultural rituals and lunar calendar observances.

Happy Lunar New Year, Chúc Mừng Năm Mới — Year Of The Dragon, Năm Của Rồng

In exploring the vibrant tapestry of urban environments, my lens is drawn towards the intricate layers of cultural heritage woven into the bustling streets of East Chinatown, West Chinatown, and Mississauga Chinatown. Through the fusion of past and present, tradition and modernity is represented through the tools of an iPhone camera, a classic point-and-shoot, and a Polaroid camera.

"By embracing both black & white and color photography, this work transcends the constraints of time, weaving a narrative that seamlessly bridges my deeply personal past and present."

Through the juxtaposition of these two visual languages, this series explores the rich tapestry of cultural heritage that defines East Chinatown, West Chinatown, and Mississauga Chinatown — illuminating the enduring beauty and resilience of these vibrant communities.
